முருகப்பெருமானும் ஓடினும்: ஓர் ஒப்பாய்வு. (Lord Murugan and Odin: A Comparative Study.)

Abstract

According to Tamils, the worship of Lord Muruga is a dominant one. The ancient Tamil culture put Muruga along with the geographical classification called Kurunji. The worship of Skanda in the Vedas and adoring Muruga by Tamil people later was placed on par in the culture of Tamils. In the same way, much before Christianity, in Germany, the worship of God Odin was in practice. This God was said to be proficient in war, curing diseases and wisdom. A deep probe into the similarities between Lord Muruga and Odin shows that these two share many features in common. Apart from the comparison of the two deities, the Godliness of the two is self-evident. This Paper deals with the two Gods in terms of their origin, feature, credentials and the similarities.

ஆய்வுச் சுருக்கம்:

தமிழர்களைப் பொருத்த வரையில் முருக வழிபாடு தனித்துவம் உடையது. பழந்தமிழர்கள் முருகனைக் குறிஞ்சி நிலக் கடவுளாகப் போற்றினர். பிற்காலத்தில் வேதத்தில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட ஸ்கந்தன் வழிபாடும் தமிழரின் முருக வழிபாடும் ஒன்றாக்கப்பட்டு இன்று இந்துக்களிடையே நிலவி வருகின்ற முருக வழிபாடாக நிலைபெற்றுள்ளது. முருகனைப் போலவே ஜெர்மானிய மக்களால் கிருத்துவ மதம் தோன்றுவதற்கு முன்னர் இவர்களிடத்தில் ஓடின் எனும் தெய்வ வழிபாடு இருந்திருக்கின்றது. இவர் போர்க்கடவுளாகவும், நோய் தீர்க்கும் கடவுளாகவும், ஞானத்தின் கடவுளாகவும் இம்மக்களால் துதிக்கப்பட்டு வந்திருக்கிறார். இவ்விரு தெய்வங்களும் வெவ்வேறு கண்டத்தில் வெவ்வேறு சமூகத்தினரால் போற்றப்பட்டு வந்த போதிலும், முருகன் ஓடின் ஆகிய தெய்வங்களுக்கிடையே பல வெளிப்படையான ஒற்றுமைகள் நிலவுவதை அறிய முடிகின்றது. ஆயினும் முருகன் பரம்பொருள், ஓடின் அவ்வாறு அல்லாமல் ஒரு பெரும் தெய்வம் எனும் நிலையில் வைத்து மட்டுமே வைத்துப் பார்க்கப்படுபவர் என்பதுவே இவ்வாய்வின் முடிந்த முடிவாக வைக்கப்படுகின்றது.
