சங்ககாலத் தமிழகத்தை ஆண்ட பேரரசர்களான சேர, சோழ, பாண்டியர்கள் என்ற மூவேந்தர்களின் ஆட்சித் திறத்தையும், போர்த் திறத்தையும், கொடைத் தன்மையையும் அவர்களின் நாட்டு வளத்தினையும் சங்க  இலக்கியத்தில் காணமுடிகின்றது. இவா்களில் பண்டைத் தமிழகத்தில் புகழ்பெற்று விளங்கிய மூன்று நாடுகளுள் ஒன்றாகத் தமிழகத்தின் மேற்குக் கரையில் அமைந்திருந்த சேர நாட்டை ஆண்ட அரச வம்சத்தினரைச் சோ்ந்தவா்களே சேரா்கள் எனப்பட்டனா். சங்க நூல்கள் பலவற்றில் சேர மன்னா்கள் பற்றிய குறிப்புக்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன. அந்நூல்களில் சேர மன்னா்களின் வரலாறும் இம்மன்னா்களின் தனித்துவம் பெற்ற சிறப்புக்களும் எவ்வாறு பின்புலச் செய்திகளாக அமைந்துள்ளன என்பதை ஆராய்வதாக இக்கட்டுரையின் நோக்கம் அமைகின்றது.

Abstract

The Sangam literature reveals the rule, openness, generosity and wealth of the emperors Chera, Chola and Pandyas, who ruled Sangakkala Tamil Nadu. Among these, the Cheras were one of the three most famous nations in ancient Tamil Nadu, belonging to the Chera dynasty that ruled the Chera country on the west coast of Tamil Nadu. Chera Mannas details are found in many of the Sangam texts. The purpose of this article is to examine the history of the Mannas and the unique features of these Mannas as background news.
