Abstract

Story-songs represent a distinct category within children's literature. When stories are told as songs using pleasant rhythms, melodious tunes, simple words, and a language style broken into short phrases, they are filled with humor, novelty, fun, imagination, and thought-provoking ideas—making them highly engaging and enjoyable for children. Such story-songs serve as an important tool for enhancing the psychological, social, and cultural development of children. These songs not only introduce children to the world they live in but also help nurture their inner thoughts, emotions, and social skills. In the context of Eelam, while there is a relatively large number of children’s songs, the number of children’s story-songs is quite limited. Among these, only a very small number align with children's psychological perspectives. In this background, the children's story-song emerges as a significant area within children's literature that deserves greater attention. This research aims to examine the development of children’s story-songs in Eelam and the psychological themes reflected within them. Using an analytical methodology, the study highlights how Eelam’s children’s story-songs function as tools for enhancing cognitive development, moral values, socio-psychological skills, and mental well-being. It also discusses how these songs reflect the views and insights of psychological theorists.
